Checkpoints to Diagnose the Problem

 

1. Camera/Input Feed

  • Make sure the video frame is correctly captured and hand is detected.

Check with:

cv2.imshow(“Frame”, frame)

  •  If the input to your model is black/empty or missing the hand, the model will not predict anything.

2. Preprocessing

  • Is the hand image being resized, normalized, or transformed correctly before feeding to the model?

Log or visualize the input tensor sent to the model:
print(image_array.shape)  # Should match model’s expected shape

 

3. Model Prediction

  • Is the model loading correctly and producing predictions?

Check:

print(predictions)

  • If it’s all zeros or nan, the model may not be getting usable input.

4. Class Mapping

  • Are the predicted indices correctly mapped to alphabets (e.g., A-Z)?


predicted_letter = classes[np.argmax(predictions)]

  • A wrong or missing classes list will result in blank or wrong outputs.

5. Threshold / Confidence

  • Are you using a confidence threshold (e.g., if confidence > 0.7:)?

  • Temporarily lower it or print all predictions to debug.

6. Text-to-Speech (TTS) Integration

  • Make sure the predicted letter is actually being sent to TTS engine.

Print the letter before speaking:

print(“Predicted:”, predicted_letter)
